The criteria for the award includes:
1. Must be nominated by at least one member in good standing; members may self-nominate.
2. Must demonstrate a positive attitude toward animal welfare as well as high quality performance in his/her field.
3. Must participate regularly on Appalachian Branch committees or special programs.
4. Encourages participation by others in activities which promote the Appalachian Branch or laboratory animal science in general.
NOTE: This award may be utilized to honor people who aren't eligible for animal care awards such as commercial vendors or members who primarily have administrative duties.
